| 説明 | The F9C Sparrowhawk shows just how inventive the aircraft designers of the 1930s were. Called a "parasite fighter", the F9C was not intended to ever take off and land under its own power. Instead, several F9Cs were literally hooked to a giant dirigible that they were intended to defend. If the dirigible came under attack, it would unhook the F9Cs to defend itself; after the battle, the ones that survived would hook back up to the blimp. When the age of the Zeppelin ended in the late 1930s, so did the age of the parasite fighter. Here's another view of the F9C. This F9C is on display at the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia. |
