| 説明 | "I need a hug," she said. A female Bombus melanopygus, or Black-tailed Bumble Bee seen on a manzanita. We can see her small pollen collection on her hind leg. It is stored on an area called the corbicula. These bumble bees also "buzz-pollinate" these manzanitas as the pollen is held up inside the urn-shaped blossoms. Bumble bees can buzz their wing muscles without flapping those wings, and this buzzing frequency causes the manzanita to release its pollen.
