Had my dive knife and my large torch.I had to abort this dive after about 1 minute of exploring the Spiegel. My dive computer has an ultra-safe setting for repetitive nitrox dives. If you tell it you are diving nitrox on the first dive and give it a specific O2 percentage, you have to re-tell the computer on each successive dive even if you are using the same O2 mix. If not, it defaults to 50% O2. Once I got to 77 ft, I had exceeded my partial pressure of O2 limit for a 50% mix and my computer told me I had to ascend. I knew that the computer was wrong and I was still in the limits, but I had already made the decision before I got in the water that I was going to follow the computer's plan for my safety. After you're already at depth is not the time that you want to try to re-plan your dive. So I took the extra safe route and aborted my dive early. Erik and Dirk finished the dive together and had enough fun to make me very jealous. |
