| 説明 | White Mountains soils and vegetation, view N toward Blanco Mtn from above Goat Spring, Inyo National Forest, elevation 3185 m (10455 ft).In the middle and far distance, light colored soils formed over Cambrian/Precambrian Reed Dolomite support open woodlands of ancient bristlecone pine (Pinus longaeva) mixed with limber pine (Pinus flexilis) and, on south-facing slopes, mountain mahogany (Cercocarpus ledifolius var. intermontanus). The darker, softer, and younger Cambrian Deep Springs Formation to the left forms topographic lows and deeper soils that support extensive treeless stands of mountain sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata var. vaseyana) at this elevation. These extend into the foreground on the lowest strata of Cambrian Campito Formation. |
