| 説明 | This statue of Friedrich der Grosse (Frederick the Great) faced the old Royal Palace (now demolished) on Unter den Linden.Friedrich II was a king of Prussia from 1740-86, under his long rule he conquered new land for Prussia and slowly made it into a European power.Friedrich was a proponent of enlightened absolutism, for years he was a correspondent of Voltaire, with whom the king had an intimate, if turbulent, friendship. He modernized the Prussian bureaucracy and civil service and promoted religious toleration throughout his realm. Frederick patronized the arts and philosophers. |
