| 説明 | CAMP ITAMI, Japan - Chaplains and chaplain assistants from I Corps and U.S. Army Japan (USARJ) invited U.S. Army Soldiers and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JFSDF) service members participating in Yama Sakura 69 at Camp Itami, Japan, to learn life skills that may one day help them save a life from suicide. Led by Army Sgt. Maj. Michael I. Bair, senior enlisted chaplain assistant, USARJ, the Dec. 8, 2015, class introduced the troops to the Ask, Care, Escort (ACE) suicide intervention program. Developed by the U.S. Army’s behavioral health experts, ACE implements effective techniques shaped by several years of research that teach Soldiers how to recognize suicidal behavior and intervene when a life threatening crisis is immenent. Bair and his team also encouraged discussion among their students by seeking solutions to help both armies overcome the stigma associated with suicide. The collaboration between USARJ and I Corp’s chaplain teams and their Japanese counterpart supported the JGSDF’s development of a suicide prevention program similar to ACE. Since its introduction in October 2014, the number of suicides within the JGSDF ranks has decreased by 20 percent. U.S. Army photo by Sgt. John L. Carkeet IV, U.S. Army Japan |
