Click here for the set.¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯Once upon a time - before 2002 - these two columns probably supported a sign. Then something damaged one of them - most likely a vehicle. And ever since then . . . nothing. The column still leans. This used to irritate me. But now I've grown almost fond of it. Coming home to Tottenham, there's a familiar marker. An unintended sculpture; completely wasteful, pointless and meaningless. Is the column still leaning? Or has it fallen over? Will English Heritage 'List' it? Will it be exhibited in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern? Or occupy the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square?► Click for an update on 11 July 2010.¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯Links§ Take a Virtual Tour with Google Street View.§ "The creative act is not performed by the artist alone; the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act." — Marcel Duchamp § Wikipedia page about found art or found object (objet trouvé; also 'readymade'.)§ Televised orchestral performance of 4' 33" by John Cage.§ John Cage on the activity of sound. |
