The area is located adjacent to the Indiana Dunes State Park and is commonly referred to as Johnson's Beach, Porter Beach, and Waverly Beach. The Johnson brothers, who purchased the land on which the inn is sited in 1926, sought to take advantage of the South Shore Railroad that operated nearby to attract visitors to their inn and restaurant. The resort became extremely popular throughout the entire Calumet Region and Chicago, and especially for its chicken and fish dinners.Copyright 2015. Some rights reserved.
