| 説明 | The Boggs Member is a relatively thin stratigraphic interval in the Pennsylvanian of eastern Ohio, USA. It typically consists of marine fossiliferous limestones, dominated by brachiopods and crinoid ossicles. Significant lateral lithologic variation is present - Boggs lithologies range from fossiliferous limestone to intraclastic limestone to ferruginous chert to "flint" to dolostone. In places, it has a relatively high component of disseminated pyrite. In other places, it is relatively rich in black manganese oxide(s).Minerals observed in the Boggs Limestone interval: calcite, dolomite, glauconite, goethite, gypsum, limonite, pyrite, sphalerite, turgite, vivianite, wad.The above photo shows the middle and upper Boggs Member at a roadcut in southern Hocking County, Ohio. The reddish-brown colored unit at top is a ferruginous-weathering, pyritic-glauconitic dolostone with rare fossils. Immediately below that is a thin, soft, gray clayshale with occasional fossils (this unit really isn't visible here). The gray-brown, blocky-weathering unit below the reddish-brown dolostone layer is fossiliferous limestone. It grades downward into very fossiliferous argillaceous limestone/calcareous shale, which grades downward into a moderately fossiliferous, gray clayshale.Stratigraphy: middle & upper Boggs Member, middle Pottsville Group, lower Atokan Stage, lower Middle PennsylvanianLocality: Mt.
