| 説明 | Shibam prospered thanks to its location in Wadi Hadramawt, at an important caravan halt on the spice and incense route across the Southern Arabian plateau. The city got its current rectangular grid plan of streets in the 16th century. The fortifications that surround the city also date back to the same period, as well as many of the dwellings up to seven storeys high that have made it famous worldwide. |
