| 説明 | Mitcham Cottage Homes for the Aged. This group of homes for the elderly were started in 1896 with the wife of the Governor Lady Victoria Buxton laying the foundation stone. The homes were founded by donations to the Cottage Homes Incorporation which had homes built for the aged in North Adelaide, Glenelg and elsewhere in the suburbs. The land for the five homes for married couples and the two homes for single people was donated by Mr Finlayson of Mitcham. Garlick and Jackman the architectural firm was involved in their construction. The homes have fine gables with polychromatic brick work which was not commonly used in Adelaide. They are still used as homes for the aged. This block of homes was named the Andrews homes after one of the major donors to the Cottage Homes Incorporated in the 1890s. |
