| 説明 | The Maryland Army National Guard hosted an inactivation ceremony for 1st Squadron, 158th Cavalry Regiment due to Army force structure changes Nov. 7, 2015, at LTC (MD) E. Leslie Medford Armory in Annapolis, Md. The 158th Cavalry was constituted on March 31, 1975, a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System. The unit traces its lineage to 1877 as the ‘Governors Guard’ and mustered into federal service in 1898, in support of the Spanish-American War and again in 1916 for duty along the Mexican border in support of the Border War (1910-1919) under General John Pershing. It’s there that the MDARNG fought against Poncho Villa as the Mexican Army conducted raids into the United States for supplies as the multi-sided civil war in Mexico escalated. In 1917 the unit mustered into federal service to support World War I and again for World War II, as part of the 29th Infantry Division. The unit mobilized in support of Stabilization Force 10, in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007. (Photo by Staff Sgt. Nancy Spicer, 29th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment) |
