| 説明 | "Much restored W front has a Geometric window with 8 lights and a rose, in a parapeted gable with buttresses either side and sundial on the right." From British Listed Buildings Listing Text: www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-379312-church-of-st-m...Pevsner says, "The W window [orig. 13th C.] must have been the show-piece of the chapel, but it was replaced in the 15C by one which, one feels, is a modernized version of what was there in 1300. The present window is not the original.... Eight lights, divided into 3 plus 2 plus 3, with panel tracery in the side pieces, and a big rose or wheel over the middle, with twelve petals or spokes - an idea of the C13 rather than the C15."According the Pevsner, the original window was taken down in 1822 and reassembled on private property in a suburb of Bristol. The window, now a Grade I Listed structure, can be seen "in situ" in a Bing Map/Birds Eye View: www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-380704-gothic-arch-se.... |
