説明 | Taken in Reading University grounds, Reading, UK, on 2006-07-30. There was a lot of these infesting some dock plants (the ones in which the flowers turn rusty brown when dry and crumble between your fingers). I am still working on the identification of the insect. It looks as so it ought to be Coreus marginatus but the plates on its back look wrong.Added on 2006-08-13: I am now confident that this is Coreus marginatus. The 'plates' on its back 'look wrong' because its wings are not fully developed yet. In The nymphs in exopterygote insects like this have wing-buds that progressively get larger each time they moult their skin. This image from Wikipedia shows the wing stubs. C. marginatus also feed mainly on the fruits and seeds of docks and their relatives. This information is from 'Complete British Insects' by Michael Chinery (published by Collins in 2005), a far superior book to Chinery's earlier 'Insects of Britain and Northern Europe (Collins, 3rd edition 1993). |
