説明 | "U.S.S. Brooklyn Off Pensacola Fla. Sept 12/62 My Dear Parents As the "Connecticut" is now about due on her way north, I again improve another opportunity of writing home. My last was sent August 30th per "Rhode Island" and I presume has reached you ere this. I was very agreeably surprised when the "Connecticut" mail was opened to find there were no less than three letters for me, two from home dated July 16 and August 13, also one from Sammy dated July 22nd. The news they brought was very interesting being of events which I was waiting daily to hear. I am really glad Billy and Alex are so well pleased with their gunboat and hope they may still continue to like her but if they come out this way and have a look at the "Brooklyn," the terror of Secesh in this quarter, they may not have the same idea of "Conemaugh." I do not know anything further from them, than the items of your letter but wish you would post me as much as you can. If they are attached to Admiral Dupont's Squadron you will have a chance of hearing from them quite often. We are receiving daily acquisitions in the way of gunboats at this rendezvous, and who..."From the Charles H.
