説明 | Reese is my son's dog. We walked 7 miles from Scotts Valley to Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz, California today. All told we walked over 16 miles today.Reese loves the water, but this was her first time at the beach. It turns out she's afraid of the surf action.I did let her splash around in the San Lorenzo River a little, and we explored the homeless encampment underneath Highway 1 along the river. The highest levels of human coliform bacteria in Santa Cruz County are always found at various points in the San Lorenzo River (including at the mouth of the river). I've always thought this was due to leaking septic tanks from all the rural homes in the San Lorenzo Valley, but the homeless use the river for a latrine and I don't doubt they make a measurable impact on the water quality. Walk along the river bank under the bridges and it smells like an open sewer down there. |
