説明 | This photo is one of a series of 19 photos taken in 1935 of the various outbuildings of the famous Bon Echo Inn. The Inn was destroyed by fire from a lightning strike one year later. According to Mary Savigny in her book 'Bon Echo - The Denison Years' by the summer of 1965:'At Lisa's (Goggin) request the Manager's House was taken apart log by log to be re-erected up the hill beyond Greystones, close to Sawmill Bay and re-named Cabin on the Hill. This was the second time the building had been re-located. Merrill told us that it was the original one-room school in the French Settlement in which his mother had taught, eighty years before. The bottom logs had to be replaced and Gerald McMurray, the park superintendent, turned for help from my husband, John, who was at that time co-chairman of the Centennial Committee of Barrie Township.'Mary Savigny continues by explaining that 'at least one log was a boom log from a lumber company on Skootamatta Lake, identified by the company's initial hammered into them and the holes through which chains linked them together, can be seen among the bottom logs of the Cabin on the Hill.'More information about the cabin can be found in an article in The Tweed News, August 27, 1980 edition by Thom Reynolds:"Cabin on the Hill dates back to 1870 when it served as a Salvation Army Hall on the Loon Lake concession road from Mazinaw to Loon (Skootamatta) Lake. It was acquired by Merrill Denison for $25.00 and moved and reconstructed in the same way as the school house (Greystone) at Campbell Bay. The cabin first served as an office near the Narrows at the time when all guests came to the Inn by water. Then it was used as a guest's cottage on the southern shore of the property. The cabin was then moved to its present site on the top of the hill, near the other two cottages. It was restored to summer use by the late Mrs. Dension and is presently used as a staff quarters."
