| 説明 | Sherborne Abbey (St. Mary), 27 July 2015. Founded as cathedral in 705 but seat was moved in 1075. It had already become a Benedictine Monastery in 998. Some Saxon work remains but most of current structure built 11th Century Norman and rebuilt/remodelled in 15th Century Perpendicular. Restored mid 19th Century Victorian. Pictured is the organ in the north transept and the tall 11th Century Norman tower arch with 15th Century Perpendicular fan vaukting at the tower crossing. |
