| 説明 | I guess, this one needs a bit of an explanation. Several years ago, I had a strange encounter with a tourist. A young guy stopped me in the middle of the street and asked me in English for the way to the house of a person whose name he gave as „Johnny Goth“. As I had not a clue, what the heck he was talking about, I first gave him my best confused „I'm not from here, either“-stare which served me quite well over the years but he didn't give up and after a while we indeed reached a mutual understanding. The poor chap was looking for the house where once had lived a certain Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (whose umlaut-infested pastname is really hard to pronounce for foreigners). He would have failed, anyway. Goethe’s original place of living had long ago become a victim to the one or other gang of city developers who have a grip on Frankfurt for ages. So I could just describe the young guy the way to a museum and wished him a good time. When I saw this bust (above) at a local art museum, the episode sprang into my mind and I had the impression that - given it’s peculiar pattern of lights and shadows - „Johnny Goth“ might be a more fitting name than the rather dusted „Johann Wolfgang von Goethe“. Bust seen at MMK (Museum für Moderne Kunst), Frankfurt a/M- Still busy - please, don't be offended, when I need some days for answers and so on! |
