| 説明 | this egg started developing, but gave up very early in the process. Who knows when it stopped, maybe 5 days in. Which would mean it was putrefying for 16 days at 38 degrees celsius. Nice.Isn't it interesting that it's harder to feel sorry for a 'chicken' like this, than for one of the more fully formed ones.I hesitate to draw parallels between this, and the more emotive subject of human babies, but I wonder how the human emotional faculty for this sort of thing scales towards human babies. What sort of a genuine emotional response would an extreme prolifer really have for a 2 day old human morula? (or even know what one is?) I just don't know.The cynic in me feels that their motives (at least originally) are/were to leverage moral judgement on women, rather than protect the lives of unborn children.:devwodewose: and I were having a discussion about evolution informing your attitude to life. And I guess the above blurb is evolution-influenced too. Without the theory of evolution there is less of a reason to consider 'scaling your emotions' from animals to humans. For many, if not most, there is a concrete divide between humans and animals.But evolution tells me differently. Which can lead me down two obvious tracks. I can treat humans as resources, as much of humanity currently treats animals, OR I can treat animals with a respect more akin to the respect more commonly (but tragically often not) reserved for people. (although quite how I might reconcile eating meat with this attitude is an interesting question!)Perhaps an interesting measure of wealth is the 'genealogical radius' around which a species protects/feels-affinity-for other living beings. Humanity appears to be trying to move to valuing all members of itself, which is definitely better than not. How long before we can move to the Buddhist ideal of valuing all of creation, animate and inanimate, equally, as aspects of the unity of existence? |
