| 説明 | This ancient burial ground is adjacent to Iona's Abbey and has from early medieval times been where the great and good not only the Abbots of Iona, but reputedly 48 ancient kings from Scotland and Ireland, whether or not these folks had any concept of "where to be seen" I have no idea but this certainly was the place to be buried. With Columba's introduction of Christianity to Scotland there began the custom of marking the final resting places of the deceased. This is a modest example but at one time this burial ground contained all the life-sized carved grave slabs that lay flat over their owners, these are now housed safe from the elements in the Abbey Museum. |
