説明 | I spent last weekend living on a Kelong, which is a fishing village on posts in the South China sea. The water is beautiful and deep, 60 feet down of gorgeous blue water. The Kelong is built by cutting down really tall palm trees and pounding them into the sea floor. At night lights are played over the surface of the water attracting fish. Over time, a small ecosystem builds up between the posts, and creates a sustainable fishing spot for the families that live there, who trade for goods with nearby villages. It feels very much like Waterworld, except without, well, sucking.Nowadays Kelongs have lost their economic edge with the advent of more advanced fishing technologies, but they maintain relevancy as a vacation spot. People come and stay in bunks to fish and visit the nearby islands. |
