| 説明 | Captain William SCott ( 1795-1866) arrived in South Australia in 1838. He purchased an 80 acre section of land along Third Creek at Magill. He was a vigneron and polititan for Port Adelaide. He lived at Brookside. His home was demolished in 1960. The Sea Scouts purchased the old wine cellars and store rooms in 1967. Scott served in the SA parliament from 1853 to 1863. On his 80 acre section he planted vines and fruit trees. He ran a shipping agency at Port Adelaide. His brother-in-law was David Wylie who purchased an adjoining 80 acre section which became Firle and where Tranmere Hosue was later built. One of William Scott's sons inherited the Brookside property in 1866 and held it until he died in 1911 but he spent much of his life in Parkside Mental Asylum after being convicted of a gross indecency! William Scott senior attended the Magill Baptist Church. Joseph Guidi took over the property in the 1920s and 1930s and ran horses on it. The Sea Scouts still own and maintain the old wine cellars. |
