| 説明 | The white object on the ridge is the partially built Dan K. Inouye Solar Telescope (DKIST).One of the requirements for building the telescope was to collect seeds from this population of silverswords and plant out 300 plants from the seeds nearby. This is one of the only patches of silverswords not within Haleakala National Park.Another biological resources in this area are the Hawaiian Petrels. They raise their young under the large cinder blocks. This time of year, mid Nov., the birds are all out at sea. They will return in Feb. |
