説明 | This is a scan of a herbarium specimen of the Lord Howe Island endemic tree Sophora howinsula (Fabaceae). Collection info is as follows: "Game 69/103. A small tree about three metres high but seen much larger. Flowers bright yellow, falling about the same time as new leaves appear (August). Ripe seed from previous year present at flowering. In a clearing on the top of Transit Hill, Lord Howe Island, August 14th 1969". The species is found mainly at lower elevations in forest on the Island, but some populations are in the Erskine Vally and on Mount Gower. It is closely related to the Hawaiian Mamane (Sophora chrysophylla) and about eight other species endemic to other island groups. Together they are placed in the sub-genus Edwardsia. |
