| 説明 | Tarcowie is situated between the Narien Ranges to the east and the Pekina Ranges to the west. It is near Tarcowie Creek which often floods. Tarcowie means place of wash aways. The town was surveyed and laid out by the government in 1874 with a north, south, east and west terraces surrounded by a belt of parklands and suburban farmlets of a few acres each. The Hundred of Tarcowie was declared in 1871 and the first farmers arrived in 1872. The town was surveyed in 1874 and the town lots sold in 1875. Less than half of the original 190 town lots were ever purchased. There were 150 suburban farmlets as well. Most of them became part of larger farms. Today Tarcowie has just 8 residents but its historic buildings show that it was a progressive town in the 1880s. Tarcowie has great charm. In the 1880s it was a busy town with a general store , blacksmiths, churches etc. |
