| 説明 | This is the "Alfred Jewel", generally accepted to be the handle that would have been attached to the base of a pointer. It is one of the finest examples of Anglo-Saxon Jewellery and dates from the 9th Century, during the reign of Alfred the Great. The letters in gold which encase the rock crystal and enamel read AELFRED MEC HEHT GEWYRCAN, which roughly translates as Alfred ordered me made. The Jewel is on permanent display in the Ashmolean museum in Oxford. |
