C17. Gritstone and limestone rubble. Two segmental arches of gritstone rubble voussoirs. Triangular sectioned cutwaters between arches to either side. Above, low rubble parapets with rubble copings. Walls thicken to either end. The bridge derives its name from the legend that Dorothy Vernon escaped over this bridge to elope with her lover during the festivities of her sister's wedding.
