| 説明 | "November 23, 1942Lots of close calls with shells. Jap snipers were very plentiful near lines. Oiled guns this morning. At noon Home, Weber, Hughes & myself started for the front lines. I took Bratton's .45 pistol and some hand grenades. They're having a hell of a battle. Mortars &howitzers are exploding all around our lines. 3/4 mi. from lines, shellfire was so thick we returned to airfield. Home went on to front with Marine patrol. We are advancing rapidly with heavy casualties on both sides. Japs with 7's, 5's, lOS's & ISS's. Am. cruiser & can are in bay. RAAF bombers saluted field.November 24, 1942Cleaned guns this morning. Very little flying. Doc Peterson said we were officially relieved yesterday by 122 but we're still working like-! V.M.B. 141 left yesterday. V.M.F. 121 has put 6 weeks in this hellhole of a jungle and is still going strong. Felt badly this afternoon so I took the evening off and laid around the tent. Charlie Horne got some swell Aircraft Emergency Rations-pemmican, malted milk tablets & chocolate bars. Tommy Hill went to hospital for exam. He needed an operation & is to be surveyed. Don Leek saw his brother this afternoon. He is a looey in the artillery."From the Lloyd D. Fuller Collection (COLL/4932), Marine Corps Archives & Special CollectionsOFFICIAL USMC PHOTOGRAPH |
