| 説明 | MyrioMyrmex Medusa (formerly Myrmex Medusa) I am renaming this Genus because I did not do my taxonomic due diligence in the first go round. As it turns out, there is already a Myrmex genus out there and oddly enough (since myrmex is Greek for ant), the name belongs to a beetle. So I want no part of that because this really is an ant. Frequently, ant genera have myrmex as a suffix, like Pogonomyrmex (a harvester ant) or Acromyrmex versicolor (another ant). Myrio is greek for countless, like the countless iterations that make the body of each ant. Using the right mathemagical transformation will generate a swarm of equally countless ants. So MyrioMyrmex then, and you can see why it is called Medusa.20 November 2014 |
