| 説明 | Frank "The Enforcer" Nitti, face man for the Chicago Outfit, had an office in Room 554 of this building. Chicago police detectives Harry Miller and Harry Lang raided the office on December 19, 1932. Det. Lang deliberately shot himself in the hand and then shot Nitti three times. According to Miller, Mayor Cermak had paid Lang $15,000 to kill Nitti in an effort to eliminate gangsters who didn't benefit him. Cermak was himself shot to death two months later during an attempt on President Franklin D. Roosevelt's life.Nitti committed suicide in 1943 rather than face a prison sentence for his part in the Hollywood Extortion plot. He was claustrophobic.Located at 221 N. LaSalle St. |
