| 説明 | "October 20, 1942Zeros and bombers attacked at 11:30 this morning. Saw some beautiful dogfights overhead. Some of our planes returned full of holes. Lost Lt. Neuer in #49. Shot down 19 of 21 Zeros & 3 bombers. 20mm shells from Zeros were exploding all over the field. This has been a sad day for Tojo. At night, Willie shelled us & bombers returned to drop 20 bombs. No sleep.October 21, 1942Cleaned my guns as usual in preparation for Tojo's daily raids. Lost two more planes. That will have to stop, for we are very low on planes. Got 11 dive bombers (Jap). Those dive bombers are duck soup for our Grummans. Willie dropped 11 slugs on our fieldduring the night. Lone bomber came over four times during the night but did not drop bombs. Just kept us awake."From the Lloyd D. Fuller Collection (COLL/4932), Marine Corps Archives & Special CollectionsOFFICIAL USMC PHOTOGRAPH |
