| 説明 | This is the most extraordinary creature. We found it wriggling in a puddle next to this dead bush-cricket. The worm (a Nematomorpha sp) is a parasite that grows inside the host and then somehow gets it to drown itself. It then emerges in the water and looks for a mate. It's not clear to me how the microscopic offspring then find another Orthopteran host.Many thanks to Fred Sherberger for explaining all that in the field and holding it for the camera. |
