説明 | This sign marks the site of the so called Executioner's Office. It is estimated that anything from 1.5 to 3 million people were killed in all. These included politicians, college professors, Buddhist monks, doctors, academicians, lawyers and anyone with an education. The lunatic also targeted people with soft hands and those who wore eyeglasses. Infants and children were not spared either, as the demented animal Pol Pot feared that they might grow up and seek revenge. He purged the cities and towns of the rest of the population and sent them to work on the fields with nothing except the clothes on them and meagre subsistence rations. Many city dwellers, not use to such a life, also died on the fields due to fatigue, exhaustion and disease. (Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Apr/ May 2014) |
