| 説明 | To coincide with the opening of the men's football World Cup in Brazil today, youth at the UNFCCC negotiations in Bonn are calling on the parties to choose sides between fossil fuel dependency and a clean and equitable future.This afternoon youth are hosting a football match between two opposing teams: TEAM CARBON, strongly supported by the fossil fuel industry and associated parties, steps onto the field in the face of massive popular oppositions from TEAM NET ZERO, who are enjoying wide and diverse popular support. Notable supporters include youth and future generations, climate justice groups, renewables and sustainable initiatives and health groups. "The newest IPCC reports clearly demonstrates that the time is ticking for fossil fuels - if we want to stay below a 2°C increase we need net zero emissions by the mid of the century", says young climate activist Undine Schmidt from Germany. UK activist Felicity Monk from UKYCC adds: "TEAM NET ZERO is strongly backed by science, civil society and particularly affected parties - and we are welcoming new team members!"The Brazilian climate activist Raquel Rosenberg concludes: "The absurd amount of $11 billion spent demonstrates that there are financial possibilities for large-scale investment if the political will is firm: Those billions could and should have been spent on a clean and equitable future - to guarantee human rights instead of violating them." |
