説明 | 2.9 million visitors enjoyed hunting, fishing and numerous other wildlife centric recreation activities on our lead WMAs in fiscal year 2012-2013. Visitation is calculated using traffic counters and correction factors derived from a study of WMA visitors in 2010. (*Economic benefits calculated using number of trips from counters and the Office of Public Access and Wildlife Viewing Services’ Economic Impact formula using (2012-13 visitation of 1,437,796 trips))WMAs are a lynch pin for conserving fish and wildlife for future generations. The habitats on the WMA system sustain our fish and wildlife resources for future generations. Our WMAs help to ensure a rich and diverse fish and wildlife legacy for our children and their children to enjoy. The broad landscapes of Florida’s WMA system provide the opportunity for people to escape busy lives and relax with friends and family in the outdoors. On WMAs, people can learn and practice outdoor skills and actively enjoy fish and wildlife resources creating a lifetime of memories. The WMA system is located in primarily rural areas of the state and many are located in designated "Rural Areas of Critical Economic Concern." Because WMAs are an attraction for visitors and tourists from urban and suburban areas, rural communities become “gateways” to the WMA system and making WMAs an especially important economic asset to small businesses in these rural towns. It also helps that Florida is a top destination in the United States for wildlife viewing and the “Fishing Capital of the World” with truly world class fishing destinations. We shouldn’t overlook unique and exciting Florida hunting experiences available almost year round. A typical Florida hunt might involve airboats or swamp buggies; a cypress hammock or tree island in the Everglades. And there is no other place where you can chase an Osceola wild turkey. |
