説明 | A bottle of Sur Megge from HaandBryggeriet in Drammen, Norway, at Café Sara in Oslo.HaandBryggeriet Sur Megge is an 8% abv sour ale that just like the Flanders red ales gets the sourness by aging with lactic bacteria in large oak vats. This bottle was from batch #440, brewed on January 30, 2012, and aged for some 18 months before bottling in the fall 2013.The beer poured a hazy golden color with a thin white head. It had a lovely lactic sour aroma, a bit like lemon, with notes of vanilla and oak as it warmed up, reminding me slightly of Bourbon. Mouthfeel was medium heavy with a flat, oily texture and a fairly strong lactic bite to it. The flavor started out with a fruity (lemon) sourness, but there were also notes of bitter tannins and mild vanilla, especially as the beer warmed up. The overall sensation was bone dry, there wasn't much rest sugar in this beer. I also enjoyed the long sour aftertaste with lingering notes of vanilla.Sur Megge is a really well made sour ale, with more than just sourness to go for it - the oak / vanilla makes it a lot more interesting than many of its sour ale peers. A lovely beer! |
