説明 | According to a Mayan legend, Cozumel was home to the gods who then made their way inland. Temple remnants and other religious artifacts bespeak of the sacredness of this plate. Yet it wasn't simply the gods who lived here. Real- life pirates such as Henry Morgan and Jean Lafitte hid out in the many coves and inlets along the coast, preying on Spanish treasure ships on their way from South America. Many shipwrecks have been found among the rich sea life in Cozumel's amazing underwater world. Palancar Reef, about a mile off the south shore, is considered by many to be one of the most spectacular coral formations in all the Caribbean. Further inland the island's unique flora and fauna attract birdwatchers and naturalists .from around the world.See set comments for overview of Cozumel |
