| 説明 | Spotted these in the woods in southeastern Pennsylvania, I've seen these growing throughout the southeastern U.S.. They are known as a member of the nightshade family and are a introduced vine. Although sometimes called Deadly Nightshade, the plant's toxin is not fatal. However the berries are attractive to children and can cause poisoning if eaten in quantity. The name Bittersweet comes from the fact that portions of the plant first taste bitter, then sweet. The plant was used in England to counteract witchcraft. |
