説明The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Core Observatory, a joint Earth-observing mission between NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), thundered into space at 1:37 p.m. EST Thursday, Feb. 27 (3:37 a.m. JST Friday, Feb. 28) from Japan.NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., opened its Visitor Center to the public for a family-friendly activity-filled Global Precipitation Measurement launch party from noon to 3 p.m. EST Feb. 27, 2014. Visitors watch a live NASA Television broadcast of the launch of the GPM Core Observatory from Tanegashima Space Center in Japan. Goddard also hosted the first ever Photo NASA Social. Fifteen guest were invited to tour Goddard's facilities and share their expeirence online. Dr. Michelle Thaller, Dr. Dalia Kirschbaum, and Dr. Walt Petersen participated in ive shot interviews with network and local TV stations from around the country.
