| 説明 | Room 271 is a lecture theatre in the original 1924 part of the Thorvaldson (Chemistry) Building, also popularly known as the "airplane room". The original ceiling had an asbestos dome, and students would throw a variety of objects up into the asbestos where they would become permenantly lodged. The asbestos and all of its objects were removed in 1995 as part of an asbestos removal program. In total, 386 paper airplanes were removed, along with 46 pens, 9 pencils, three dissecting needles, a spoon, a nail, and a lab spatula. The objects were stored in the university archives. The asbestos ceiling was replaced with a blown cellulose product with similar adhesive properties. Within hours of the room's re-opening, the first of a new batch of paper missiles was stuck in it. |
