This species is synonymized with P. alepidotus according to WORMS and ITIS. Historically, this species has been classified as P. alepidotus in the mid-Atlantic. P. paru ranges from the northeastern US to southern South America and there appears to be genetic differences among the disparate subpopulations. Further investigation into possible species level differences is warranted. |
