| 説明 | Although the Pleiades are traditionally referred to as the seven sisters (daughters of Atlas in Greek mythology), only six are readily visible to the naked eye. Various hypotheses have been proposed to explain the "lost Pleiad." One suggestion is that the seventh sister is hiding out of shame for being in love with a mortal. Another theory is that an ultramassive white dwarf (GD 50) began its existence as a bright blue star in the cluster, and was gravitationally ejected. One problem with this second theory is that all of this would have happened 60 million years ago, well before humans could exist, let alone count to seven. |
