説明 | This puzzled me for ages, until I got a pic. Thought there once was an establishment here called the 'Westminster Army Club'. In fact it's two separate ads, one for the Westminster Gazette and one for Army Club Cigarettes. The venerable Gazette, mentioned in Conan Doyle and Bram Stoker, ceased being an independent publication in the 1930s (though the ad may be older, of course), while Army Club were popular in the 1940s/50s - they are not a brand today.I also like the faint image of the guy in a trench coat. I think he is wearing a flying helmet - and perhaps he is smoking an Army Club cigarette... |
