| 説明 | The book of Nehemiah is the remarkable account of how God used Nehemiah to restore God’s people to His purposes. In this opening section we see that Nehemiah enquires about the state of God’s people and the city of Jerusalem. When he hears that they are struggling he is deeply affected, but responds by going to God in prayer. His prayer is a remarkable example of faith in God’s character, personal contrition, alignment to God’s purposes, and request for favour. After months of planning and prayer, Nehemiah then approaches the king to ask him for permission to return and rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Because of God’s gracious hand upon him, Nehemiah receives the king’s favour and leaves for Jerusalem. This passage challenges us to think about what purpose our lives are being lived for. Nehemiah’s concern was for God’s people and purposes. His dependency was upon God rather than his own abilities. He was willing to sacrifice his life of comfort as a cupbearer in order to achieve something for God. Many people pursue greatness for themselves and lose their lives in the process. Nehemiah lost his life for the sake of God’s purposes and ended up accomplishing great things for God. Jesus Christ is the greatest of all who became a servant of all, and because of how He has served us, He has enabled us to serve others, and in the process do great things for God. |
