説明 | The jumping spider family (Salticidae) contains more than 500 described genera and about 5,000 described species. I believe this particular species to be Phidippus audax but would not argue with an expert opinion.. All jumping spiders have four pairs of eyes with one pair being particularly large. These are the anterior median eyes which are adapted to detailed, 3-D vision and allows the spider to estimate the range, direction, and nature of hapless prey and direct its leaping attack with amazing speed and accuracy.Jumping spiders, unlike grasshoppers, do not have large muscular legs for jumping. The leaps are made possible by a unique and well-developed internal 'hydraulic' system that extends their limbs by altering the pressure of body fluid (hemolymph) within them. Some jumping spiders can spring as far as 25 times the length of their bodies. |
