| 説明 | Kangaroo Flat, Zion Bible Christian Church. The splitting of mains roads from Gawler to Mallala and Gawler to Wasleys was an obvious place for a small settlement to arise. A general store emerged here and in 1854 Reverend Keen got the Bible Christians to build a chapel here too. The land for the church had been donated by a local Anglican family the Ebsary family. The cairn here notes that the present church was built in 1866 presumably replacing the very basic 1854 church but church records say the Zion church was built in 1867. The basic structure with two Gothic windows each side is typical of Bible Christian churches of this era. A cemetery is attached with eight local families represented on the burial register. Zion church was another of the biblical names used for churches built during Reverend Keen’s period of service. Presumably when the settlers arrived this was a region of many kangaroos. A school operated here for many years in the little chapel. The church closed in 1966 and became a music school for Roseworthy Agricultural College but it is in a poor state of repair. The family names on the few graves here are repeated in the dirt roads of this district- Nottle, Leak, Oates etc. In the 1870s over 50 children were attending school in this small church.
