説明 | Part of a Set / Slide Show of images relating to the Brighton Japan Festival and Matsuri ブライ卜ン曰本フェステイバル祭 - held in Japan City, around the Victoria Fountain on The Old Steine Gardens, Brighton, England. Two giant fortune cats each with a robotic arm. In England the position / movement of the hand and arm is considered to be waving / greeting - but in Japan the gesture is one of beckoning. Accordingly the cats are called maneki-neko 招き猫 - meaning "beckoning cats". Other names are "welcoming cat", "lucky cat", "money cat", and "happy cat". The cats here (or at least the coins thay are holding) are named "Left" 左 and "Right" 右.In a performance involving men in golden cloaks (druids? medical students?) spectators were invited to discuss their deepest problems on gold telephones located at the base of each cat. The issues raised were then publicly re-broadcast on a tannoy system, and solutions and meditations were offered - it has to be said, not always very helpful suggestions were made...fortunecatproductions.com/the-fortune-cats/thefortunecats.com/www.brightonjapan.com [Official Website] [event diary]www.facebook.com/BrightonJapanFestival [facebook page]MOSHIMO fishlove13th September 2013 to Sunday 22nd September 2013[Titles, Tags and Descriptions to be updated] |
