| 説明 | The Be-12 was designed as an amphibious replacement for the Be-6 flying boat, to carry out anit-submarine and maritime duties. It retained the gull wing design of the earlier type, but had an entirely new fuselage and was powered by turbo-prop instead of piston engines. It was given the name 'Chayka' (seagull), although it's NATO codename 'Mail' was much less inspiring! The type first flew in 1960 and about 150 were built. It is still in service in small numbers. Some were later used in the search and rescue role, while a few were converted as fire-bombers.This is an early ASW variant.c/n 5600302.On display at the Russian Air Force Museum.Monino, Russia.13-8-2012 |
